Jakarta Riots: Suspects Rise to 49 Amid Numerous Minors Involved

Police have identified 49 individuals as suspects in connection with riots that occurred after a demonstration near the Indonesian Parliament (DPR/MPR RI) in Jakarta on August 27. Of these, 44 are adults and are being handled by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum). The remaining five are minors who have come into conflict with the law and are being managed by the Directorate of Women and Child Protection Services and Child Crime (PPA and PPO). The suspect designation is part of a total of 322 people initially detained on August 27, based on the latest verification and data synchronization by investigators. Police have stated that 273 of those initially detained have since been released after undergoing examination and verification processes. Previously, on August 28, 45 people had been named as suspects. The Director of General Criminal Investigation, Kombes Pol. Iman Imannudin, had explained that investigators had mapped the perpetrators into six role clusters. The first cluster involved minors (under 18 years old), totaling 153 individuals, including school dropouts and various age groups from 12 to 18 years old. These minors have been transferred to the Sub-Directorate for Women and Child Protection and Combating Human Trafficking (PPA dan TPPO) for further investigation. Other clusters included 91 adults categorized as ordinary rioters, 71 individuals suspected of damaging public facilities and assault (45 of whom are suspects), and three individuals found carrying sharp weapons (all designated as suspects). Additionally, investigators identified clusters for instigators and financiers, as well as those responsible for recruiting masses to incite riots. It was clarified that the three individuals found with sharp weapons were included in the initial suspect count and did not represent new additions.
