Cambodia Army Chief Meets Philippine Delegation Over Ceasefire Monitoring

PHNOM PENH, Sept 15, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s military chief General Vong Pisen has met a senior Philippine Army officer to discuss ceasefire monitoring and the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border, officials said Tuesday. General Vong Pisen, Commander‑in‑Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, held talks with Brigadier General Entero S. Narcis, Deputy Inspector General of the Philippine Army, during a visit to Phnom Penh. Vong Pisen thanked the Philippine government and defence ministry for deploying an ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to Cambodia to help verify and monitor implementation of the ceasefire agreement. He also briefed the delegation on conditions along the frontier. The meeting was aimed at strengthening military ties and cooperation between Cambodia and the Philippines. Brigadier General Narcis reaffirmed the AOT’s commitment to monitoring the truce and improving the effectiveness of its work. Both sides said continued inspections would help reduce tensions and support implementation of the ceasefire. Government spokesman Pen Bona earlier this week said Cambodia continues to support the AOT in carrying out its mission, stressing the importance of strengthening its mandate to verify compliance and promote lasting peace. He said inspections were vital for independently observing the situation, assessing conditions of civilians affected by alleged violations, and ensuring transparency. Bona added that the observer mission was intended to build mutual trust and help restore normal conditions along the frontier. The AOT was established to monitor sensitive areas and support confidence‑building measures between Cambodia and Thailand, where border tensions have periodically resurfaced despite years of diplomatic engagement.
