Chem shared an example of a woman hairstylist in Battambang province who used digital connectivity to learn new techniques via YouTube, elevating her business and demonstrating the power of technology in local entrepreneurship. Beyond infrastructure, telecom companies act as ecosystem builders, collaborating with schools, NGOs, and the government to deliver digital literacy programs, promote digital resilience and safety, and provide mentorship and entrepreneurship support. This enables women and youth to not only consume technology but also create with it, fostering innovation, leadership, and resilience. Digital connectivity is a critical enabler for Cambodia's growing startup ecosystem and women's entrepreneurship. It provides access to markets, customers, and investors, while enabling digital payments and e-commerce platforms for rapid scaling. For women, connectivity helps overcome traditional barriers to capital, networks, and mobility, creating a more level playing field. It also unlocks knowledge and mentorship, allowing entrepreneurs to acquire new skills and explore innovative business models.
