Truck Overturns on Highway, Causing Kilometers-Long Traffic Jam

A truck overturning incident on the Vĩnh Hảo - Phan Thiết expressway on the morning of September 13th caused a massive traffic jam stretching for kilometers. The accident occurred around 4:30 AM when a truck traveling from north to south collided with the central median barrier in the Hàm Liêm area. The impact caused the truck to overturn, straddling the median and completely blocking lanes in both directions. This prevented many vehicles from passing the accident site, leading to prolonged traffic congestion in both directions. Many drivers, forced to wait for extended periods, were seen leaving their cabins to sit on the slopes beside the highway while awaiting clearance. Driver Nguyễn Văn Hùng, whose truck was carrying goods from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang, stated, "I've been stuck here for two hours." The Traffic Police Team No. 6, under the Directorate of Road Traffic Police, arrived at the scene to direct and regulate traffic. Some vehicles were guided to exit the expressway at interchange Km215 and rerouted to National Highway 1 to alleviate the congestion. Authorities subsequently deployed a crane to clear the scene. By approximately 6:50 AM, the overturned truck was moved closer to the median barrier, creating space for vehicles in both directions to pass sequentially. A representative from the patrol force confirmed, "Vehicles can now pass the accident site, and the damaged truck is being towed away from the expressway." No casualties have been reported from the incident. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by relevant authorities. The Vĩnh Hảo - Phan Thiết expressway, over 100 km long, is part of the Eastern North-South Expressway and was opened in May 2023. It is a four-lane highway connecting to the Cam Lâm - Vĩnh Hảo expressway to the north and the Phan Thiết - Dầu Giây expressway to the south, forming a crucial link between Ho Chi Minh City and the South Central Coast region.
