Vietnam Seeks Deeper Ties with Russia, Exploring Economic and Cultural Cooperation

Finance Minister Ngo Van Tuan highlighted Vladivostok's important role as a gateway connecting Russia with the Asia-Pacific region, including Vietnam. He noted that 2026 marks the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations. Vietnam attaches great importance to its relations with Russia and wishes to further promote practical and effective cooperation, not only in traditional areas such as politics, energy and oil and gas, but also in science, education, culture, sports and tourism. In January-May, bilateral trade between Vietnam and Russia was around 2.16 billion USD, up 6.6%. Preparations for the National Assembly's second session must begin early, with close coordination from the outset. Taking place on September 3, 2016 during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to Vietnam, the upgrade of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership marked an important milestone, ushering in a new chapter in the ties between the two countries. From an economy that has made strong use of integration opportunities, Vietnam is increasingly seen as a country capable of proactively creating development space, establishing its position in regional and global networks and making more substantive contributions to common issues.
