Cambodian Man Sues Senior Police Officials Over Wrongful Arrest, Imprisonment

In Stung Treng province, northeastern Cambodia, a 56-year-old Cambodian Muslim man, Sles Fert, has filed a lawsuit against four senior police officials, alleging their involvement in his wrongful arrest and subsequent nearly year-long imprisonment due to mistaken identity. He claims that errors in the execution of a court order led to his unjust incarceration. According to Sles Fert, he was arrested on October 6, 2025, based on a mistaken identity. Subsequently, he was sentenced by the court to nearly a year in prison. The lawsuit names the following four officials: 1. Colonel Tit Sovannny, Deputy Commissioner of Stung Treng Provincial Police. 2. Colonel Ein Sang, Deputy Chief of the Minor Offenses Police Department. 3. Colonel Chhuk Komal, Chief of Stung Treng Municipal Police. 4. Lieutenant Colonel Pang Loch, Deputy Chief of Stung Treng Municipal Police. Fert alleges that these officers, in executing a court's arrest warrant, mistakenly identified him, leading to his arrest. He states that he was detained for approximately one year before the issue of his identity was raised and an investigation was requested. He is urging the authorities to investigate the warrant execution process and ascertain the truth of the matter, ensuring that the law is enforced correctly and the rights of innocent citizens are not violated.
