Vinh Long Province Achieves 15 Out of 16 Targets in Combating IUU Fishing

Vinh Long Province in southern Vietnam has successfully met 15 out of 16 targets related to combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. This achievement signifies progress in the province's efforts to strengthen fisheries management and protect sustainable aquatic resources. On September 15, a delegation led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vo Van Hung visited the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee for a joint meeting on the implementation status of IUU fishing prevention measures. As part of the national drive to eradicate IUU fishing, the province has been promoting strict monitoring systems and law enforcement. In Vinh Long, several instances of fishing vessels violating regulations have been reported in the past. The current achievement suggests that progress is being made in addressing these issues. Provincial authorities are aiming to achieve sustainable use of aquatic resources and gain the trust of the international market through awareness campaigns for fishermen and enhanced penalties for violations. Vietnam has been focusing on strengthening its measures since receiving a warning (yellow card) regarding IUU fishing from the European Union (EU). Vinh Long's recent success serves as an important indicator for evaluating the effectiveness of national-level countermeasures.
