Koh Kong Authorities Streamline Procedures for Deceased Veterans' Families

Authorities in Koh Kong province are accelerating the procedures for preparing documentation for funeral assistance (Bela Moron Sarok) for the families of deceased veterans, aiming to respond promptly to their hardships. This was confirmed by Mr. Chea Sovi, Deputy Governor of Koh Kong province, during a training session on administration and funeral assistance work. According to the deputy governor, the work also involves conducting on-site inspections for members of the association (Anak Neak Krong - ANK) who lack land, housing, or are living on public land, in order to find appropriate solutions. The province continues to monitor and update the living conditions of members who have already received land and housing, as well as provide emergency assistance to those facing severe difficulties. The provincial administration, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the administrations of districts and communes are continuously disseminating the decisions, statutes, and internal regulations of the association's leadership. They are also encouraging working groups to provide regular assistance and support to former soldiers and their families at the local level. The Koh Kong branch of the Association of Cambodian Veterans and Retirees has disbursed funeral assistance funds totaling 64,000,000 Riel (approximately $16,000 USD) to the families of 16 deceased veterans. This includes 32,000,000 Riel from Samdech Techo's contribution for 8 cases and an additional 8,000,000 Riel from the provincial governor's support, at 500,000 Riel per case. Furthermore, the Association of Cambodian Veterans and Retirees provided social security and funeral contributions totaling 66,419,900 Riel (approximately $16,600 USD) in three installments to the families of 5 members (4 retirees and 1 disabled person). Mr. Chey Sidara, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation and Deputy Secretary-General of the Association of Cambodian Veterans and Retirees, stated that administrative work focuses on knowledge, skills, and efficiency in managing documents, preparing files, and daily operations of the association at all levels to ensure smoothness and transparency. He added that for funeral assistance work, officials must have a deep understanding of the procedures, conditions, and principles of granting funeral aid, ensuring that services and support are provided to the families of deceased veterans and retirees in a timely and accurate manner. The senior official from the Ministry of Social Affairs emphasized that the effective implementation of funeral assistance work is not merely an administrative duty but a demonstration of high regard, reciprocation, and filial piety towards the heroism and sacrifices of former soldiers who shed their blood for peace and the development of the motherland.
