PDIP on Jokowi-Megawati Meeting: 'We Have Parted Ways Politically'

Said Abdullah, a chairman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), stated that President Joko Widodo and party chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri have "parted ways politically," dismissing the possibility of reconciliation. The statement came in response to claims made by Achmad Hidayat, a former PDIP member recently expelled from the party, who alleged that Widodo expressed a desire to meet with Soekarnoputri. Hidayat quoted Widodo as saying, "I have no problem with Mrs. Mega, and we will definitely meet someday." However, Said dismissed Hidayat's testimony as "fake news," asserting that PDIP and Widodo have already diverged politically. "PDIP remains firm in its principles. We are no longer thinking about President Jokowi. We will focus all our efforts on advancing the party according to the Chairwoman's directives. We have no intention of reviving dead cards (relationships)," Said stated. Hidayat's dismissal was based on alleged ethical and disciplinary violations, including abuse of authority and intimidation of party officials, as per a PDIP DPP (Central Executive Board) decree dated September 4, 2026, signed by Chairwoman Soekarnoputri and Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto. These developments highlight the deepening rift between President Widodo and PDIP, the party that propelled him to the presidency. Soekarnoputri is reportedly displeased with the presidential candidacy of Widodo's son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is running as the vice-presidential candidate for a rival contender.
