Cambodia Marks 9th World Cleanup Day to Promote Environmental Protection

Kandal Province, Cambodia – On September 18, 2026, Kandal Province celebrated the 9th World Cleanup Day in Ta Khmau City. The event, co-organized by the Kandal Provincial Department of Environment and the River and Sea Cleanup Organization "Sammot," saw participation from the Ta Khmau Municipal Administration, monks, provincial government officials, citizens, and students. Pov Somanak, Director of the Kandal Provincial Department of Environment, stated that the 9th World Cleanup Day aligns with the first phase of the "Pentagonal Strategy" of the seventh legislature government and supports the Ministry of Environment's 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, focusing on "Clean, Green, and Sustainable." This activity also contributes to the "Clean National Roads, Plastic Waste Free" campaign, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the "Clean Cambodia, Khmer Can Do" campaign, all aimed at preserving clean water, soil, and air, in line with the government's "Safe Village, Commune, District" policy. The provincial administration is actively promoting cleanup activities in villages, communes, and districts across the province to enhance public understanding and participation in maintaining hygiene and the environment. The Provincial Director highlighted the importance of proper management of waste and solid waste in urban areas to ensure city aesthetics, protect public health, and safeguard the environment. Citizens are urged to participate in waste segregation and proper disposal, separating recyclable or reusable waste from that which needs to be discarded, in accordance with the directives of the Kandal Provincial Administration. He also called upon all institutions, local authorities, development partners, and citizens to continue strengthening their commitment to maintaining hygiene, the environment, and public order, and to further disseminate and educate the public on the importance of the environment for their livelihoods, well-being, and civilized living. Through the participation of all parties, this World Cleanup Day is expected to foster a spirit of environmental love and promote the maintenance of hygiene and the environment as a daily practice for citizens throughout Kandal Province.
