Cambodia Supports PhD Scholarship Students for Japan Study, Fostering STEM Talent

The Cambodian Red Cross met with two scholarship students who will pursue doctoral studies in Japan, offering encouragement and guidance. The meeting took place on September 18, 2026, at the headquarters of the Cambodian Red Cross, with Secretary-General Pum Chanthini presiding. The two scholarship recipients are Ms. Yang Banya, a lecturer at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, specializing in Transportation and Urban Planning Engineering, and Ms. Net Marinnich, a contract lecturer at the same institute, specializing in Food Science and Technology. The students visited to express their gratitude and seek the esteemed support of Her Excellency Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, for study materials and other expenses related to their first trip to Japan. This scholarship falls under the AUN/SEED-Net-JICA project, which aims to promote education and develop human resources in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Secretary-General Pum Chanthini conveyed the warm regards and encouragement from Her Excellency Bun Rany Hun Sen, and briefed the students on the four priority areas and humanitarian activities of the Cambodian Red Cross in line with its 2021-2030 strategy. She also extended her wishes for the scholarship recipients to achieve success in their studies and maintain good health and safety during their stay in Japan. In response, the scholarship recipients expressed their deepest gratitude to Her Excellency Bun Rany Hun Sen and all the leadership of the Cambodian Red Cross for their high level of attention. They also made a firm commitment to strive to enhance their capabilities and knowledge in order to contribute to the development of the nation upon their return in the future.
