Rare Endemic Plant Rediscovered in Masungi After 130 Years

MANILA, Philippines — A rare plant species, believed to have been lost for 130 years, has been rediscovered in the limestone forests of Masungi in Rizal province. The Masungi Georeserve announced the discovery on Facebook on Sunday, Sept. 13, stating that the species, which is endemic to the Philippines, is now blooming along its Discovery Trail. The plant was first collected in 1890. The Masungi Georeserve highlighted that this rediscovery is a "significant moment for biodiversity conservation in the Philippines." The georeserve is known for its unique limestone formations and rich ecosystem, serving as a hub for conservation efforts.
