Two Arrested in P6.5-M Smuggled Cigarette Bust Off Zamboanga City

MANILA, Philippines — Two men were arrested in connection with P6.5-million worth of allegedly smuggled cigarettes confiscated in the waters off Zamboanga City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday. Personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company (ZCMFC) intercepted the purported contraband on a motorized boat near Layag-Layag Island in Barangay Talon-Talon. This incident highlights the ongoing problem of smuggled goods, particularly tobacco products, within the Philippines. Zamboanga City, situated along a crucial maritime trade route connecting the Philippines to Malaysia and Indonesia, is a region prone to smuggling activities.
