Cambodia Encourages Australian Investors in Priority Sectors

On the morning of July 30, 2026, His Excellency Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held a cordial meeting and discussed work with Her Excellency Dr. Annalee, Minister for International Development, Minister for the Small Business, and Minister for Multicultural Affairs of Australia, during her visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from July 29 to July 31, 2026. During the meeting, His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Her Excellency Dr. Annalee expressed satisfaction with the long-standing and fruitful relations between the two countries, as evidenced by frequent high-level visits and exchanges, economic growth, and close people-to-people ties. Both sides also emphasized the importance of organizing high-level consultations between the two countries, which serve as a crucial mechanism for further strengthening and expanding cooperation. The two ministers noted with satisfaction the growth in bilateral trade over the last four years and acknowledged that there is still potential to expand cooperation further. His Excellency Prak Sokhonn encouraged Australian business people to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia in priority sectors, including education, agriculture, agro-industry, clean energy, mining, and healthcare services. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister also recalled with gratitude Australia's contributions to Cambodia's peace process and reconstruction efforts since the early 1990s, through peacekeeping operations and official development assistance in various fields such as agriculture, health, education, and demining. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister also expressed his deep gratitude to Australia for providing an additional AUD 3 million in assistance to Cambodia for strengthening social protection amidst the global impact of the crisis in the Middle East. Her Excellency Dr. Annalee stated that Australia is proud to have contributed to Cambodia's socio-economic development and reiterated its commitment to continue providing further assistance to Cambodia. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments of common concern and reaffirmed their joint commitment to supporting mutual interests and working together to promote peace, stability, and prosperity through international cooperation. With 2027 marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Cambodia and Australia are committed to further strengthening their relationship. Both sides are ready to organize joint activities to celebrate this historic event. His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister also informed Her Excellency Dr. Annalee about the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, stating that Cambodia has provided detailed information regarding this dispute to the Australian Embassy in Cambodia.
