Cambodia-China Hold Second Government-Private Sector Dialogue to Boost Investment

The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), in conjunction with Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin, co-chaired the second Cambodia-China Government-Private Sector Dialogue on September 3. This dialogue aims to strengthen economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries and further promote Chinese investment. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol of the CDC, alongside the Chinese Ambassador, led the meeting. Attendees included CDC officials, representatives from relevant ministries, the economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy, the China Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia, and representatives from approximately 70 Chinese enterprises operating in Cambodia. The second dialogue primarily focused on the following agenda items: 1. Reviewing the progress and outcomes of the first dialogue. 2. Discussing the current status of relevant policies and regulations. 3. Exchanging views and proposals from Chinese enterprise representatives, along with responses from relevant ministries. 4. Setting and implementing future cooperation goals. In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol welcomed the Chinese Ambassador, embassy officials, CDC members, and Chinese investors and business representatives. He also highlighted the recent "Open Day with DPM" event, where direct discussions with 20 companies led to a commitment to address concerns and challenges in cooperation with relevant agencies for swift and appropriate solutions. The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the Cambodian government's firm commitment to eradicating technology-based fraud to ensure a safe and trustworthy business environment. As part of this effort, Cambodia will host an "International Conference on Combating Technology-Based Fraud" in Phnom Penh from September 23-24, 2026. Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister mentioned the positive results of past investment promotion missions and announced plans for upcoming visits to Xiamen and Shenzhen in China to attract investment and deepen economic cooperation. Ambassador Wang Wenbin expressed his gratitude to the Cambodian government, through the CDC, for its full support and for organizing this fruitful dialogue. He noted with satisfaction that many of the issues raised by the Chinese private sector in the first dialogue have been addressed promptly and effectively by the Cambodian government, underscoring its commitment to supporting private investment. Both sides shared a common understanding that this dialogue serves not only as a mechanism for problem-solving but also as a strategic bridge to strengthen the "iron friendship" and "diamond cooperation" between Cambodia and China. They reaffirmed their commitment to promoting trade relations, increasing bilateral investment, and improving the business environment to bring tangible economic benefits and sustainable development to both nations.
