Tropical Depression Maymay to weaken into LPA Friday; wind signals lifted

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Thursday night that Tropical Depression Maymay is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area (LPA) by Friday morning. Consequently, all wind signals across the country have been lifted. According to Pagasa's 11 p.m. weather bulletin, Maymay was last estimated to be located 290 kilometers east of Casiguran. The weather bureau indicated that the storm's structure is becoming disorganized, leading to its weakening. Maymay is forecast to move from east to west across the Pacific, with no significant direct impact expected on the Philippines. However, Pagasa continues to advise vigilance, as isolated rains and thunderstorms may still occur in some areas. The Philippines is frequently affected by tropical depressions and typhoons throughout the year. These weather systems often cause severe flooding and landslides, disproportionately affecting areas with vulnerable infrastructure and impoverished communities.
