Cambodia Promotes Sustainable Fisheries Management Through Law Dissemination

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries has conducted outreach activities on the Fisheries Law and the use of legal fishing gear in Kampong Tralach district, Kampong Chhnang province. Led by Undersecretary of State Hass Sareth, the technical working group disseminated information to local authorities and fishermen. The campaign, held on August 6, 2026, aimed to enhance public understanding of the Fisheries Law to strengthen the efficiency and sustainability of fisheries resource management and conservation. This action is a significant part of ensuring food security, boosting the national economy, and protecting the legal rights and interests of fishermen, fishing communities, and traders involved in fisheries and aquatic products. Undersecretary of State Hass Sareth emphasized the importance of the Fisheries Law as a crucial legal instrument for responsible management and harvesting of fisheries resources. He also called upon fishermen and the entire community to respect the existing legal provisions, to use only fishing gear permitted by law, and to immediately cease the use of all types of illegal fishing gear that cause severe damage to fisheries resources and aquatic ecosystems. He expressed appreciation for the active participation of local authorities, relevant law enforcement, and fishing communities in preserving and restoring national fish stocks for the benefit of the livelihoods and family economies of the local population. Furthermore, the Undersecretary of State advised fishing communities and relevant authorities at all levels to continue close cooperation with fisheries officials to effectively prevent and crack down on fisheries offenses. He stressed the importance of strictly adhering to the orders and announcements regarding fishing seasons to ensure sustainable fisheries resource management for future generations.
