World Refugee Day commemoration held in Malaysia, urging continued international focus on refugees' rights and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

Yangon, July 3 Myanmar Affairs Alliance (MAA) and its partner organizations, which are working on Myanmar affairs in Malaysia, held a commemoration event in Klang city during the last week of June to honor the life's difficulties, rights, and humanitarian values of refugees worldwide on World Refugee Day. A campaign was also conducted at the event, urging the international community to continue to pay attention to the people's leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been facing various difficulties for generations in Myanmar. It is reported that Daw Zin Mar Aung, the Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government (NUG), delivered an opening speech via video, and Debbie Stothard, the founder and coordinator of ALTSEAN-Burma, also sent an opening speech via video message. Furthermore, it is reported that UNHCR (CBP Unit) in Malaysia also sent a message to the World Refugee Day commemoration event, and U Babu Gyi, who supports Myanmar people in Malaysia, and some Malaysian authorities also attended the event. At the event, MAA officials discussed issues related to refugees, and Mr. Soe Htet Thein spoke about the killing and violent acts of the military council against the people across the country, including Magway and Sagaing regions in central Myanmar, and the need for the safety and protection of displaced persons, CDM staff, political activists, and media workers, it is reported. In addition, a special speech for World Refugee Day was delivered in English by Mr. Samuel Lien from IMAC on the topic of "The essential need for protection until everyone is safe," and Dr. Kyi Lwin Kyaw continued to speak in Burmese, it is reported. At the event, sermons were delivered by monks with words of tribute and birthday wishes to commemorate the birthday of the people's leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and U Naing Lin and Ma Thet Thet Aye, representing NLD-LA, also delivered congratulatory remarks to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, respectively, it is reported. After that, it is reported that officials from M.W.O distributed leaflets for the "Let's build a good image" campaign, informing Myanmar refugees living in Malaysia about the rules and regulations they should follow (Dos & Don’ts).
