DOJ Probes Over 20 Individuals in Cebu Flood Control Project Anomalies

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Justice’s (DOJ) National Prosecution Service (NPS) has received two separate criminal complaints against 20 individuals including officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in connection with flood control project anomalies in Cebu. At a press conference, DOJ Spokesperson and Prosecution Attorney Polo Martinez said the new complaints were filed by the Cebu City Hall. Martinez said the complaints were filed against 20 individuals including DPWH officials and contractors. He added that the complaints were filed for violations of Republic Act No. 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, and Republic Act No. 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees. He said that the complaints were filed based on the findings of the Cebu City Hall’s investigation on the alleged anomalies in the flood control projects. Martinez said that the DOJ will conduct its own investigation on the complaints to determine whether there is probable cause to file charges against the respondents.
