Cambodian Ambassador Meets Japanese Youth Ahead of SSEAYP Visit to Cambodia

On September 25, 2026, H.E. Chum Sontry, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Japan, received a courtesy call from 31 Japanese youths who will participate in the Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) and visit Cambodia in the near future. According to a press release from the Embassy of Cambodia in Japan, H.E. Chum Sontry warmly welcomed all the Japanese youths and expressed his admiration for the Cabinet Secretariat of Japan and all relevant parties for continuing to organize the SSEAYP program to promote friendship, mutual understanding, and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Southeast Asian countries. On the occasion, the Ambassador informed the Japanese youths about the long-standing friendship and close cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, and highlighted the continuous development of bilateral relations in many sectors, including trade and investment, infrastructure, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. H.E. Chum Sontry emphasized the important role of youth in contributing to strengthening the relations between Cambodia and Japan. He stated that friendship between countries is not only built through cooperation between governments but also strengthened through exchanges and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries. Referring to the Japanese youths' visit to Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh in January 2027, the Ambassador encouraged them to take this opportunity to learn more about Cambodia's history, cultural heritage, and current development, and to build friendships that can last long after the program concludes. He also expressed his hope that the Japanese youths' visit to Cambodia will provide them with meaningful experiences and unforgettable good memories.
