Jakarta Prioritizes Needy Students for Overseas Postgraduate Scholarships

The Jakarta provincial government is set to launch the 'LPDP Jakarta' scholarship program, which will provide advanced education scholarships up to the master's and doctoral levels for a maximum of 75 individuals. Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung, announced this initiative, stating, "The number will be approximately between 50 to 75 people, and it will be conducted professionally," during an event in Kramat Raya, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (17/9). The LPDP Jakarta program, recently formalized through Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) Number 20 of 2026, is scheduled to commence in 2027. In the process of determining scholarship recipients, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will collaborate with the central LPDP organizers. This partnership aims to ensure that the selection is conducted professionally and equitably. "So that this does not become a place for people to lobby for LPDP Jakarta, we are collaborating with the Central LPDP for the determination process," explained Pramono. However, regarding the scholarship recipients, Pramono elaborated on specific groups that will receive priority. "We will prioritize Jakarta residents from underprivileged families who possess strong academic abilities. This is already stipulated in the Gubernatorial Regulation," he clarified. Previously, the DKI Jakarta Education Agency had prepared a budget of Rp99.9 billion for the LPDP Jakarta program. The Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, stated that this program was established to open opportunities for children in the capital to continue their education abroad.
