Vietnam Extends Humanitarian Aid and Strengthens Diplomacy
Vietnam is enhancing its international presence through disaster relief missions to Venezuela and strengthening defense and economic cooperation with various countries. Domestically, it is promoting local administrative reforms and digitalization to pursue sustainable growth.
Vietnam is intensifying its humanitarian contributions and diplomatic efforts on the international stage. Recently, the country dispatched a 124-strong rescue team to Venezuela following a devastating earthquake. This team is tasked with locating victims trapped under collapsed structures, conducting urban search-and-rescue operations, and providing emergency medical assistance to survivors, thereby supporting the recovery of Venezuelan authorities and local communities. The Vietnam People's Army has expressed its readiness to provide appropriate forms of support to Venezuela, based on the traditional friendship between the two nations. Diplomatically, Vietnam is seeking to strengthen ties with a diverse range of countries, including Algeria, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia, and the Republic of Korea (RoK). With Algeria, Vietnam emphasizes the effective implementation of their Strategic Partnership, aiming to enhance political dialogue and expand economic, trade, investment, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges. Defense cooperation plays a crucial role in bolstering mutual trust with the UAE and Malaysia. Bilateral political and diplomatic ties with Malaysia have been reinforced, while economic, trade, and investment cooperation continues to yield positive results. Regarding relations with the RoK, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung expressed his expectation to learn from the RoK's economic development, fueled by sci-tech, innovation, and digitalization. He anticipates expanded cooperation and further acceleration of Vietnam's innovation drive. Efforts are underway to achieve bilateral trade targets of $100 billion by 2026 and $150 billion by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner. Domestically, one year after the implementation of the two-tier local administration model, Vietnamese localities are entering a phase focused on improving governance quality, utilizing resources, and translating institutional changes into substantive development momentum. This model is expected to deliver increasingly better results for both the State and its people through improved institutions, more effective resource allocation, optimized placement of officials, and further advancements in digital transformation. Prime Minister Le Minh Hung conveyed to Australian investors Vietnam's readiness to facilitate their sustained business presence.
