Laotian Ambassador Praises Cambodia's Development and Online Scam Crackdown

His Excellency Sonexay Vannaxay, Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, expressed his deep impression of Cambodia's remarkable development during a meeting with His Excellency Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on July 28, 2026. The Ambassador particularly noted the significant increase in high-rise buildings and extensive road networks in the capital, provinces, and especially rural areas, based on his experience visiting several provinces across Cambodia. Furthermore, His Excellency Vannaxay lauded the tangible results achieved in cracking down on online scams (Scam Online) within Cambodia. In the security sector, the Laotian Ambassador highly commended the efforts of the Cambodian government, and specifically the Ministry of Interior under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, for diligently investigating and combating technology-based fraud with notable outcomes, aligning with the commitments stated by Prime Minister Hun Manet. Building on these concrete achievements, the Laotian Ambassador and the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister discussed and exchanged views on the importance of the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Laos and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia. The Ministry of Interior of Cambodia indicated its readiness to provide support and share experiences in drafting laws and legal documents related to preventing and combating such global crimes, including lessons learned from the implementation of Decree 03. His Excellency Sar Sokha expressed his gratitude for the Laotian Ambassador's accurate observations regarding the actual situation in Cambodia. The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that some criminals who have evaded Cambodia's crackdown might flee to neighboring countries, including Laos, to continue their illicit activities.
