Cambodia Claims Diplomatic Victory on Border Dispute at Francophone Parliament Forum

The Second Vice President of the Senate, Dr. Thoun Vathana, has highlighted Cambodia's success in utilizing international diplomatic forums to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, which he stated are facing "invasion" from Thailand through the use of armed force. Speaking at a working forum between Senate members and commune/district council members held at the Hall of Solidarity, Senate, on July 13, 2026, Dr. Vathana stated that Cambodia has achieved success in defending its territorial integrity through parliamentary diplomacy at the Francophone Parliament (APF). Following a request from the Political Affairs Committee of the APF during its recent plenary session in Cameroon, the APF adopted a historic resolution supporting and respecting Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the context of the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute. The APF expressed strong concern over the tensions and activities reported in the border area, attributed to Thailand's alleged illegal occupation of Cambodian territory. The APF called upon Thailand to respect Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and to refrain from any unilateral actions that exacerbate tensions. Dr. Thoun Vathana considered this a major success and a true realization of justice for Cambodia, which has allegedly suffered violations by the Thai military.
