Vietnam, Cambodia Border Police Enhance Security Cooperation

Border police forces of Vietnam and Cambodia are strengthening their cooperation in crime prevention and border management. This initiative is part of the annual cooperation plan between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior. According to announcements from provincial police, including Tay Ninh Province in Vietnam, police forces in four border provinces of both countries are maintaining continuous information exchange and deepening their coordination in preventing and combating crime, as well as addressing issues arising along the border. This cooperation aims to preserve peace and stability in border areas and foster friendly relations between the two nations. Past collaborations have included efforts to improve the operation of border crossings and facilitate cross-border road transport. The current strengthening of security cooperation is seen as an essential element for deepening economic ties, with a view towards enhancing border trade and supply chain connectivity. Stable security serves as the foundation for the smooth execution of these economic activities. Under Vietnam's one-party system, maintaining social stability is a paramount concern for the government, and strengthening border management is also prioritized from a national security perspective. Particularly for Vietnam, which shares a vast border with China, managing the border with Cambodia to its southwest is a crucial factor influencing regional stability. This enhanced cooperation should be understood within this broader geopolitical context.
