Free Eye Screening and Treatment Program Launched in Sihanoukville

The Sihanoukville Provincial Department of Health has announced the implementation of a free eye screening and treatment program to support residents with eye conditions. The program will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Long-Life Health Post (Oubak Rotesh). The screening will include checks for conditions such as cataracts and pterygium, with eligible severe cases being referred for free surgery at the provincial referral hospital. Eyeglasses will also be provided free of charge to those requiring vision correction. This initiative aims to assist residents who may face financial barriers to accessing adequate healthcare. Sihanoukville Province has experienced significant population influx and economic activity in recent years, driven by large-scale infrastructure development and tourism growth. However, rapid urbanization and widening economic disparities have also raised concerns about the impact on social services, including healthcare access.
