Vietnam and Minnesota, USA Boost Cooperation in Key Sectors
Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung visited Minnesota to foster cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science-technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Minnesota officials recognized Vietnam as a key partner and expressed interest in expanding collaboration in agriculture, medical technology, education, and infrastructure development.
From June 28-30, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung undertook a visit to the state of Minnesota, aiming to further promote cooperation between Vietnam and Minnesota across various potential fields including economy, trade, investment, science-technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges. During his visit, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung held meetings with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Minnesota House of Representatives Pro Tempore John Huot, Minnesota State Senator Susan Pha, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, and Minnesota Commissioner of Employment and Economic Development Matt Varilek. At these meetings, the Governor and representatives of Minnesota state departments and agencies affirmed their regard for relations with Vietnam, recognizing Vietnam as an important partner in the region. They expressed a desire to continue strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in agriculture, medical technology, education, infrastructure development, and business connectivity. Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung shared with Minnesota leaders and departmental representatives that the state possesses numerous potential areas that align with Vietnam's current development priorities, such as trade, agriculture, high technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, and human resource training. He noted this presents a favorable opportunity for both sides to boost cooperation in the coming period. Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung also requested that Minnesota continue to support the Vietnamese community in the state, encourage businesses to expand investment and business in Vietnam, and promote the establishment of sister-state relationships between localities in Minnesota and Vietnam. During his working trip in Minnesota, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung presided over a forum with three leading economic promotion organizations in Minnesota: the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership, the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce. The event also attracted the participation of business associations and enterprises in the fields of agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, technology, and services, including the Minnesota Soybean Association and Ecolab. On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung visited the Innovation Center of 3M Company and the headquarters of Medtronic. These are two major companies from Minnesota that are already investing and doing business in Vietnam. Representatives from both companies highly appreciated Vietnam's investment environment and affirmed their commitment to long-term investment, expressing a desire to continue expanding cooperation in technology, innovation, and medical equipment. Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung also visited and worked with the University of Minnesota, one of the leading research universities in the United States. Both sides exchanged views on the potential to enhance cooperation between educational institutions in Minnesota and Vietnam. In discussions with representatives of the Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Heritage Program at the University of Minnesota's Center for Language, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung highly appreciated their efforts in preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language within the community. On this occasion, the Ambassador presented Vietnamese language textbooks and publications on Vietnamese history and culture to the university's Center for Language. Within the framework of the trip, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung also met with Professor Yang Dao and representatives of the H'mong community in Minnesota.
