Bang Rakam Advocates Road Network Use for Flood Evasion to Transport Minister

Residents of Bang Rakam district in Phitsanulok province, northern Thailand, have reportedly proposed to the Deputy Minister of Transport that the district's road network be maximally utilized as an evacuation route for residents during flood events. Bang Rakam district is one of the areas that has suffered from flood damage for many years. Particularly during the rainy season, river overflows and heavy rainfall have caused widespread inundation, severely impacting residents' lives. The residents believe that by utilizing the existing infrastructure, such as the road network, as evacuation sites and supply routes during emergencies, the damage can potentially be mitigated. Specifically, proposals are likely being considered to prioritize the use of roads located on higher ground or those with structures less prone to flooding for the movement of evacuees and relief supplies. This proposal demonstrates the proactive stance of local residents in participating in flood mitigation efforts and calls on the government to implement more effective disaster prevention and reduction measures. How the Deputy Minister of Transport receives this proposal and reflects it in future policies remains to be seen.
