Indonesia Targets E10 Bioethanol Fuel Rollout by 2027

Indonesia aims to implement the nationwide rollout of E10 fuel, which involves blending 10% bioethanol with gasoline, by 2027. This plan has multiple objectives, including strengthening energy security, supporting the domestic sugarcane industry, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the introduction of E10 fuel is a significant step towards reducing dependence on fossil fuels and accelerating the transition to renewable energy sources. Sugarcane, primarily produced domestically, is expected to be the main feedstock for bioethanol, which is also anticipated to boost the agricultural sector. Indonesia is one of the world's leading biofuel producers, but until now, its focus has mainly been on implementing B30 (a blend of 30% biodiesel with diesel fuel). The introduction of E10 fuel will expand the use of biofuels in the gasoline sector and could bring new changes to the domestic fuel market. The government plans to advance infrastructure development and related regulatory frameworks to realize this plan. Establishing a stable bioethanol supply system and conducting public awareness campaigns are also considered crucial.
