"At this moment, the wave of support is like a flood breaking through a dam. Countries from around the world want to join us. Every day we receive inquiries from organisations that want to become part of the Kun Khmer family," Chhay said. "So now, Kun Khmer is no longer going out to seek the world — the world is coming to Kun Khmer." Chhay, who also serves as secretary-general of the International Kun Khmer Federation, explained that the federation must now carefully evaluate potential partners, as multiple organizations from the same country often seek affiliation. "We now need to be selective and determine which organisation we can trust to develop Kun Khmer in a stable and sustainable way in their country." These remarks were made during a press conference on July 9 at Chip Mong Tower, announcing the Cambodia Kun Khmer Best of Best in Australia championship event. The tournament is part of a broader strategy by the Khmer Boxing Federation and the International Kun Khmer Federation to promote Kun Khmer internationally, with Sydney selected as a key destination for expansion. The event, scheduled for July 17, is a collaboration between Cambodian and Australian partners. Cambodia will send five male fighters and one female athlete to compete for championship belts. Eung Vireak, acting director-general of Khmer Beverages, the event's main sponsor, highlighted the company's long-term commitment to promoting Kun Khmer both domestically and internationally. "Supporting these competitions is part of our long-term commitment to stand alongside the Kun Khmer sector by helping organise events both inside and outside Cambodia," he said. "It gives our athletes opportunities to showcase their abilities, gain international experience and promote Cambodia’s culture and the identity of Kun Khmer to the world." Chhay noted that the federation's governance and development strategy are on the right track, with international partnerships already leading to Kun Khmer events staged overseas and generating increasing foreign interest. He cited a recent event in France that saw overwhelming support, with many French clubs switching their training programs to Kun Khmer. Simultaneously, more countries have joined the movement, increasing the International Kun Khmer Federation’s overseas membership and laying the groundwork for future Olympic recognition. "Kun Khmer is moving in the right direction. The world is waking up and embracing it," Chhay asserted. "Based on our current momentum and development, I believe Kun Khmer will achieve broad global recognition in the near future." The federation plans to establish formal governance structures for Kun Khmer abroad. "We now have around 60 member countries. Our goal is for Kun Khmer to become an Olympic-recognised sport. The Olympic Movement includes more than 200 countries, and once Kun Khmer reaches that level it will truly be a global sport, recognised around the world.
