Cambodia Deports 122 Chinese Nationals Over Online Scam Allegations

On September 2, 2026, Cambodian authorities deported 122 Chinese nationals (including 3 women) suspected of involvement in online scams and other illegal activities. Following the high recommendations of the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Sok Vasana, Director General of the General Department of Immigration, instructed the Department of Investigation and Procedure Enforcement to deport these individuals via a special flight from the Techo International Airport border checkpoint. Information from the General Department of Immigration indicates that this deportation was carried out after authorities discovered that the individuals were illegally residing and working in Cambodia without passports, and were involved in technology-based fraud (online scams) within the Kingdom of Cambodia. The implementation of such operations to deport illegal foreign nationals is a direct result of the firm orders and strict legal procedures of His Excellency Dr. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia. His Excellency has previously clearly stated his position: "Cambodia will never allow criminals or lawbreakers to use Cambodian territory as a base for fraud or to commit crimes that threaten regional and global security." "Authorities must continue to clean up, suppress, and deport without exception to protect national dignity and security." Based on this spirit and under the direct guidance of His Excellency Dr. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, authorities are diligently working to eradicate technology-related crimes, investigate and suppress masterminds, and rescue scam victims to ensure their safe return to their home countries.
