Cambodia Braces for Weekend Showers with Thunderstorms and Gusts, Affecting Up to 60% of Land Area

Cambodia's Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has forecast that widespread showers with thunderstorms and gusts are likely across the country from September 15th to 17th. This is attributed to the influence of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, and South China Sea, affecting the southwest monsoon blowing over the Mekong River basin, the Cambodian sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. According to the ministry's bulletin, lowlands are expected to experience temperatures ranging from a minimum of 25°C to a maximum of 33°C, with winds from the southwest and northwest blowing at an average speed of 3 meters per second. For 13 provinces including Battambang, Kampong Cham, and Phnom Penh, along with the capital city, 40% of the land area may experience showers with thunderstorms and gusts. In highland areas, temperatures are predicted to range from a minimum of 24°C to a maximum of 31°C, with winds from the southwest and west blowing at an average speed of 5 meters per second. Nine provinces including Kampong Speu, Oddar Meanchey, Kratie, and Mondulkiri, as well as mountainous regions, are expected to see up to 60% of their land area affected by showers with thunderstorms and gusts. Coastal areas are forecast to have temperatures between 25°C and 34°C, with winds from the southwest and southeast at an average speed of 3 meters per second. Five provinces including Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, and Kampot, along with the Bokor mountain range, may experience showers with thunderstorms and gusts covering 30% of the land.
