Vietnam to Unify Textbooks from 2026 Academic Year, Teacher Training Underway

Vietnam is set to implement a single, unified textbook titled 'Connecting Knowledge with Life' (Kết nối tri thức với cuộc sống) for all students nationwide starting from the 2026 academic year. This move is described as a scientific adjustment aimed at enhancing educational quality, reducing waste, and adapting to current teaching realities. To ensure the successful rollout of this unified curriculum, a comprehensive training program is being conducted for approximately one million teachers across the country. The Ministry of Education and Training anticipates that this standardized approach will lead to more equitable educational outcomes and a better learning environment for students. This standardization is expected to help bridge educational disparities between regions and minimize redundant investments in textbook development. In some localities, measures such as free textbook distribution or loan schemes are being considered to support students from economically disadvantaged families. For instance, over 200,000 students in Nghe An province are expected to receive textbooks free of charge in the upcoming academic year. The unified textbook initiative is part of a broader educational reform championed by the Communist Party of Vietnam, viewed as a crucial step in nurturing the nation's future workforce. Under Vietnam's single-party system, educational policies are closely aligned with national development strategies, and a standardized curriculum can also serve to strengthen societal cohesion and foster collective progress.
