Husband Arrested for Domestic Violence in Svay Rieng City After Wife Assault

In Svay Rieng City, Svay Rieng Province, on July 22, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, authorities intervened and arrested a husband who committed severe domestic violence against his wife, threatening her with a knife. The incident occurred at a roadside stall along the Vai Go River in Sra Vong village, Svay Rieng commune, Svay Rieng city. According to police sources, the suspect is identified as Hin Rithy, a 41-year-old male vendor, originally from Prey Veng Province and currently residing in a rented room in Pothita Ho village, Pothita Ho commune, Svay Rieng city. The suspect reportedly initiated an argument with his wife, Khlouk Samon, 36, accusing her of having a secret lover. During the dispute, the suspect punched his wife twice in the face, causing her to fall to the ground with bruises and swelling on both cheeks. He then brandished a fruit knife, held it to her neck, and threatened that "anyone who dares to come near will be stabbed to death along with his wife." Immediately, under the command of Colonel Som Sophann, Inspector of Svay Rieng City Police, a joint force of police and gendarmerie arrived at the scene to intervene. As officers approached, the suspect attempted to stab his wife twice more with the knife, but fortunately, she was not injured due to the timely intervention of the authorities. The suspect then resisted arrest, engaging in a struggle with the officers, but was eventually subdued and apprehended by the specialized forces, along with the fruit knife as evidence. Authorities confirmed that the primary motive behind the violence was "jealousy." Currently, the suspect and the evidence have been processed by the police for further legal proceedings.
