Ayeyarwaddy Times June 29 According to the results of this year's university entrance examinations, the pass rate in 2026 has increased by about 3% compared to 2025. However, only three individuals from Yangon Region were included in the list of the top 30 scorers across the three subject groups of the university entrance examination, according to a statement released by the Myanmar Examination Department of the interim government. The pass rate for the university entrance examination nationwide this year was 52.37%, an increase of over 3% from last year's 48.06%. However, among the list of top scorers, only one student each from Dagon, Hlaing Thar Yar (East), and Hlegu townships in Yangon Region was included. The majority of the remaining top scorers were students from Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region, Myeik, Myitkyina, Myanaung, Zalun, Hinthada, and Kyonpyaw, as well as from the conflict-affected towns of Mon Ywa, Minbu, Minkin, and Kanma. In Yangon Region, although the number of candidates for the university entrance examination increased to 46,889 this year, the pass rate decreased compared to last year, with only 23,203 students passing, resulting in a pass rate of 49.48%. In 2025, Yangon Region had 37,467 candidates, with 19,366 passing, achieving a pass rate of 51.69%. Furthermore, eight students from Yangon Region were included in the list of top scorers for all three subject groups: Science, Humanities, and Arts, according to records from the Examination Department of the interim government.
