Thailand's Border Trade Turns Positive in June, Up 3.9%

THAILAND’S border trade registered a growth of 3.9 percent for the first time in 13 months in June driven by trade with Malaysia and Laos but the figure for Cambodia remained zero as all border checkpoints are still shut, PPTVHD36 said today (Aug. 6). Ms. Arada Fuengthong, director-general of the Department of International Trade, Ministry of Commerce, said total value of trade with four neighbouring counties in June reached 79.477 billion baht, an increase of 3.9 percent, marking a return to growth after 13 months. Exports totaled 43.847 billion baht, a decrease of 7.3 percent, while imports totalled 35.630 billion baht, an increase of 22.0 percent. Thailand maintained a trade surplus of 8.217 billion baht. The highest value of border trade was with Malaysia reaching 38.201 billion baht, up 48.4 percent, followed by Laos at 25.478 billion baht, up 12.8 percent, and Myanmar 15.798 billion baht, down 8.5 percent. Meanwhile, border trade between Thailand and Cambodia remained at zero due to the closure of all 18 border checkpoints. Key border exports in June 2026 included diesel fuel (4.111 billion baht), computers and other equipment (1.775 billion baht), and other refined petroleum products (1.723 billion baht). This led to total border trade value in the first half of this year reaching 431.032 billion baht, down 14.9 percent. Exports totalled 246.241 billion baht, a decrease of 20.2 percent, while imports added up to 184.791 billion baht, a decrease of 6.6 percent.
