Cambodia Strengthens Youth Education on Drug Prevention and Traffic Law Compliance

An educational event focused on preventing drug abuse and ensuring compliance with road traffic laws was held in Malai District, Banteay Meanchey Province. The event, held on the afternoon of August 1st at Ratanak Malai Pagoda in Malai District, was organized by the Youth Union of Cambodia (S.S.Y.C.) of Malai District in collaboration with local authorities and security forces, drawing over 360 members of the Youth Union and students. Mr. Yim Samnang, Deputy Governor of Banteay Meanchey Province and Standing Member of the Provincial Standing Committee of the Youth Union of Cambodia, presided over the event. He firmly stated that youth are not only individuals to be protected from the dangers of drugs and traffic accidents but also serve as a "driving force and influential educational agent" in disseminating these educational messages to their peers, families, and communities. Addressing the severe impact of drugs, Mr. Yim Samnang described them as a "catastrophe that destroys the future" of individuals, families, and the nation. He urged the youth to unequivocally say "no" to drugs and to avoid any contact with them. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of adhering to traffic laws, noting that non-compliance not only risks personal lives but also creates significant burdens and sorrow for families and society. He emphasized that respecting traffic laws is equivalent to respecting one's own life and the lives of others. He reminded young people who are eligible to ride motorcycles to always wear helmets correctly when commuting to and from school, to avoid speeding, to refrain from drinking and driving, and to practice mutual understanding and courtesy on the roads. He added that observing traffic laws today demonstrates morality and responsibility as good citizens for the future. In addition, Mr. Yim Samnang encouraged the members of the Youth Union and all students in Malai District to continue striving in their studies, absorbing knowledge, building noble character, and actively participating in humanitarian and social work with the provincial, district, and commune administrations to contribute to the further development of Banteay Meanchey Province. Educational materials and supplies were distributed to the students during the event, and a joint commitment was made between the youth and authorities to continue campaigns to combat drugs and enforce traffic laws in Malai District more effectively. This initiative aligns with the Cambodian government's "Safe Village-Commune-District" policy, aiming to enhance youth awareness and ensure community safety.
