Assistant Fire Officer Arrested with Son-in-law for Detaining Youths in Homemade Cell to Sell to Military

Ayeyarwaddy Times September 1 An assistant fire officer and his son-in-law have been arrested and are being prosecuted for allegedly luring youths from Bogalay Township to Yangon with the promise of jobs, detaining them in a homemade cell at his residence, and intending to sell them to the military, according to police sources. Kyi Win had lured two youths from Bogalay Township to Yangon with the promise of jobs, after which they went missing and lost contact with their families at the intersection in Tan Yin Gone Ward, Insein Township. As a result, the families of the victims sought assistance from the authorities, and during the investigation, the residence of Thein Oo (alias Aung Lay Lay), a third-grade officer of the Tan Yin Gone Ward Assistant Fire Brigade, located behind the brick factory in Tan Yin Gone Ward, Insein Township, was raided and searched around 4 PM on August 25. During the raid and search, it was revealed that the assistant fire officer Thein Oo had set up a private detention cell in his home, and a total of four youths, including three youths who were bound and held captive in the rooms at the back of the house and one youth who was illegally detained, were rescued, having been arrested with the intention of being sold to the military. Assistant fire officer Thein Oo (alias Aung Lay Lay), who lured and detained youths in a homemade cell at his home with the intention of selling them to the military, and his son-in-law Than Soe, have been charged by the Insein Myoma Police Station under Section 365 of the Penal Code (kidnapping with intent to cause wrongful confinement or detention) with Case No. (P) 820/2026, and are being investigated and prosecuted.
