Boat Collision on Mekong River: Body Found After Two Days, Family Devastated

The body of a man who went missing after a boat collision on the Mekong River in Kratie province, northeastern Cambodia, has been discovered. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on July 29, 2026, near Koh Rul, in Boeung Chaa commune, Sambour district. Local residents found a body floating in the Mekong River near Kakout village on the morning of July 31 and reported it to the authorities. Police arrived at the scene and confirmed the deceased was the victim of the July 29 accident, subsequently contacting the victim's family. The victim has been identified as Ting Sokna, 30 years old, residing in Kampong Ro Teth village, Boeung Chaa commune. He leaves behind a wife and two children, aged between three and five years old. According to witnesses, Ting was operating a small boat with two people on board, traveling from Koh Tnaot to Sambour district. En route, near Koh Rul, his boat collided with another boat carrying two individuals, which was heading from Sambour district towards Koh Tnaot. In the immediate aftermath, two men and a 13-year-old boy managed to swim to Koh Rul and were rescued. However, Ting was submerged in the river and remained missing. Police have examined the body and handed it over to the victim's family for traditional funeral rites. The accident highlights ongoing concerns regarding water traffic safety in the region.
