Kaspersky: Scam Calls Surge Nearly 3% in Indonesia
Scam calls in Indonesia have increased by 2.55% from January to June 2026, reaching 10.24%, according to Kaspersky data. Spam calls remain a significant issue, with cybercriminals exploiting the widespread use of smartphones.
JAKARTA - The latest data from Kaspersky Who Calls, Kaspersky's caller identification and call blocking application, the number of scam calls in Indonesia increased by 2.55 percent since January 2026 to 10.24 percent in June. Spam calls (spam calls) are still a major problem in Indonesia, covering more than 65% of the calls marked each month analyzed, with a peak of 74.7% in April 2026. This finding reflects how cybercriminals continue to exploit mobile devices as consumers become increasingly reliant on smartphones for communication, shopping, payments, entertainment, and access to digital services. However, voice calls are not the only channels used by cybercriminals. According to Kaspersky's global research on spam and phishing for 2025, fraudsters are increasingly relying on fake domains, typosquatting, and phishing links to steal credentials and funds. Phishing links are now also spreading further beyond emails, namely through text messages, instant messaging applications, social media, fake job offers, and sharing of crypto asset giveaway prizes. The same research found that 13.74 percent of the detection of malicious email attachments worldwide occurred on user devices in China, while Vietnam (4.14 percent) and Malaysia (3.70 percent) were also among the most affected countries. "Fraudsters are now evolving beyond traditional email phishing methods and have penetrated deep into the mobile ecosystem," said Choon Hong Chee, Head of Consumer Channel for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky. Kaspersky recommends users to: Avoid clicking on suspicious links received via messages, emails, social media platforms, or online ads. Carefully verify the URL of a website before entering personal information. Be wary of gifts, giveaway prizes, surveys, or unexpected job offers. Enable multi-factor authentication for important accounts. Immediately install security updates. Use a trusted mobile cybersecurity solution. Monitor online accounts periodically to detect abnormal activity.
