Thai Deputy Army Commander Slams Influencers for Spreading Fear Along Cambodia Border
The Deputy Commander of the Thai Second Army expressed frustration over sensationalized news spread by influencers, causing anxiety among residents near the Thai-Cambodian border. He urged calm and critical media consumption, stating Cambodia's military movements are mere provocations.
Major General Natt Siin, Deputy Commander of the Thai Second Army Area, expressed strong frustration on his personal Facebook page regarding the situation along the Thai-Cambodian border. He criticized influencers for spreading sensationalized news that has caused unnecessary anxiety among local residents. According to his analysis, Cambodia suffered significant losses in personnel, budget, and territory in the past two conflicts, crucially losing public trust. He believes that to regain popularity, the Cambodian leadership must demonstrate they have not lost and are ready to reclaim territory, while also best managing those affected. He outlined two ways Cambodia could regain territory: first, through military force, which he deemed unlikely given Thailand's military capabilities, predicting a harsher response if initiated. Second, through international diplomacy, protests, and appeals to international courts to portray themselves as victims and pressure Thailand legally. He stated Cambodia is currently pursuing the latter. The military movements along the border, he explained, are a natural display for their citizens, showing they have not conceded and retain capability. These are mere provocations into former positions, as Thailand maintains control. He also noted that both sides naturally adjust and improve their positions for survival, with Thailand doing more but not publicizing it. He assessed these Cambodian actions not as a significant threat, but rather as provocations that would lead to greater repercussions if escalated. He urged the Thai public to remain calm, consume news critically, and trust the Thai military, emphasizing their professionalism and clear operational plans. He advised against speaking based on hearsay or outdated experiences, and warned against distorting information, creating fake content using AI, or inciting fear among border residents. He encouraged border communities to continue their normal lives, relying on official information, and assured them of military protection. For the general Thai public, he stressed the importance of consuming media and expressing patriotism with a sober mind. Furthermore, he called for support in establishing border security infrastructure, noting recent relaxations in forestry laws that will aid military operations. He also highlighted the long-term significance of supporting Thailand's diplomatic team in international arenas. Source: INN News
