Chiang Mai Homebuyer Discovers Skeleton in Abandoned Auction House

A prospective homebuyer in Chiang Mai was shocked to discover a skeleton on a bed inside an abandoned house slated for auction by the Legal Execution Department. Police were alerted around 5 PM on September 15th after villagers reported the grim find at a property near the Ban Tha Duea community market in San Phi Suea subdistrict. The individual who found the remains had expressed interest in purchasing the two-story wooden house, which had previously served as a shop due to its proximity to the market. The property, reportedly abandoned for several years, still contained many of the former owner's belongings. While inspecting the ground floor, the visitor found a wooden chair and a bed covered by a mosquito net. Upon opening the net, a severely decomposed body, reduced to a skeleton, was found lying on the bed. Police, along with a forensic doctor from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, examined the scene and collected evidence. The remains have been sent for autopsy and identification. Villagers identified the former owner as Sriwan Sae Jiew, an elderly woman who lived there with her son, known as "Tee." Residents last saw the pair about five to six years ago. They later heard the house had been seized by a bank and that Sriwan would move in with her son and relatives, leading them to believe she had relocated. Authorities have since learned that Sriwan's son is currently imprisoned in Tak province. Sriwan herself was believed to be around 93 years old at the time of her suspected death. Police suspect the remains belong to Sriwan, but confirmation awaits forensic results. If confirmed, Sriwan may have died alone in the house over five years ago, despite its location next to a busy market. Villagers stated they had not noticed any unusual smells until a few days prior to the discovery, and even then, they could not pinpoint the source. The shocking discovery was made when a potential buyer entered the property for inspection.
