Conservation International Cambodia (CI) has conducted training to enhance the capacity of local communities in the implementation of the REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) project, which aims to conserve forests and generate carbon credits. The training was conducted by presenting the results of the benefit-sharing mechanism obtained from consultation meetings held in 33 target villages. Mr. Nu Chanvasna, Head of Community Participation and Livelihoods at CI Cambodia, emphasized that the involvement of local communities is crucial for ensuring the transparency and success of the REDD+ project. He stated, "Local communities need to receive information about the progress of the REDD+ project they are participating in, as well as actively participate in discussions, provide feedback, make decisions, and implement project activities." Through this continued engagement, CI aims to support inclusive and sustainable forest conservation efforts. According to information from CI, the training held on July 5th allowed representatives from local communities, particularly indigenous groups, to gain a clearer understanding of the benefit-sharing mechanism and the upcoming project implementation activities. They also reviewed and provided input to further improve the project's implementation. This initiative is part of Cambodia's efforts in forest conservation as a climate change mitigation measure, aiming to balance the improvement of local livelihoods with environmental protection.
