Five Injured in Overpass Collision Near Pattaya

Five people sustained injuries in a traffic accident that occurred on an overpass near Pattaya in Chonburi Province in the early hours of July 16. Banglamung Police were alerted to the collision around 3 a.m. on the Krathing Lai elevated road, heading inbound towards Pattaya. Rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon responded to the scene to provide assistance. At the scene, an Isuzu D-Max pickup truck had collided with the rear of a Toyota Commuter van, causing significant damage to the van's rear. The pickup truck was driven by a 38-year-old man, accompanied by a 46-year-old passenger. The van was carrying three individuals, including its 35-year-old driver and two passengers aged 35 and 34. Among the van's occupants was a passenger with a disability, who was reported to be safe following the crash. All five individuals involved suffered injuries and were transported for medical attention. A relative of the van passengers informed the police that the group had finished selling goods at Rong Po Market and was en route back to Pattaya. According to their account, the vehicles were traveling together when they suddenly heard a loud impact from behind. Upon stopping to investigate, they discovered the pickup truck had rear-ended their van. A road maintenance worker present at the scene told police that he observed the pickup truck traveling at a high speed and in what appeared to be an unsafe manner before losing control and striking the van. Police documented evidence at the crash site and impounded both vehicles at the Banglamung Police Station for further examination. The injured parties were advised to receive comprehensive medical treatment before undergoing further questioning. Authorities stated that the pickup truck driver appeared confused and provided unclear responses, leading to his detention for additional investigation.
