5kg Breast Fibroadenoma Ignored for 7 Years, Mistaken for Pubertal Growth

A case of a breast fibroadenoma weighing 5kg, which had been ignored for seven years, has been revealed in Vietnam. The patient stated that she mistook the changes in her body, which began around the age of 13, for normal pubertal development. The symptoms became significant only after both breasts grew abnormally large, causing her body to be pulled forward, accompanied by chronic pain and fatigue. It was only at this stage that she sought medical examination, leading to the discovery of the massive fibroadenoma. This case underscores the importance of accurate understanding of one's bodily changes, particularly among young people, and the necessity of seeking early medical attention for health issues. In Vietnam, while a universal healthcare system exists, there are disparities in access to healthcare and health literacy based on region and income level. Particularly in rural and low-income areas, it is not uncommon for minor symptoms to be self-diagnosed or for consultations to be delayed due to concerns about costs.
