Vietnam Strengthens Cooperation with UN on Gender Equality Advancement

Vietnam is taking significant strides in advancing gender equality through its strengthened cooperation with the United Nations. This collaboration emphasizes not only symbolic achievements but, more importantly, the assurance of equal opportunities for women and girls in all circumstances. Viet, a prominent figure, underscored that Vietnamese women have consistently been a core and pioneering force, contributing significantly from national safeguarding to socio-economic development. He also highlighted Vietnam's notable accomplishments in promoting gender equality and supporting victims of gender-based violence. The "We Are ABLE" initiative, launched in 2019, aims to foster gender equality, support girls' education, and cultivate safe and inclusive learning environments. Its second phase, running from 2023 to 2025, has reached over 8,000 students and their families in the provinces of Cao Bang, Vinh Long, and Khanh Hoa. Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha stated that Vietnam has established a comprehensive and coherent policy framework to encourage and facilitate women's full exercise of equal rights in political, economic, cultural, and social spheres. This aligns with Vietnam's broader development agenda under its one-party system, aiming to empower women's societal participation. While Vietnam is also strengthening strategic partnerships with countries like Russia and France, domestic efforts in gender equality are foundational to its sustainable socio-economic development goals. The nation's contributions to international frameworks, such as the ASEAN Strategic Health Agenda, underscore the integral role of gender equality in achieving these wider development objectives.
