President Prabowo Prefers Unscripted Speeches, Citing Connection with the People

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia has revealed his preference for speaking spontaneously and "as is," despite receiving advice from political and communication experts to deliver speeches with a script. The statement was made during the 28th anniversary celebration of the National Awakening Party (PAN) held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Friday, September 18, 2026. "I am always told by my advisors and experts, political experts, communication experts, 'Mr. Prabowo, don't give speeches without a script. You must use a script,'" Prabowo said. Despite the input regarding his speaking style, Prabowo admitted that he has his own communication style when delivering speeches. He continued that he prefers speaking spontaneously. "But how can I, I just like to speak as it is. How?" Prabowo exclaimed. He then touched upon the view that a President should speak with a gentle tone. "They say a President's speech must be gentle. But what can I do, I want to speak to my people, I know them, I understand my people," he stated. Prabowo also shared that his experience leading soldiers is one of the reasons he feels close to the people, remarking that the soldiers he once led are also part of the people. "I probably know them better than many people because I used to lead soldiers, and soldiers are the children of the people," Prabowo said. Prabowo also claimed to be able to see the public's response to his speaking style. He then asked the attendees to judge whether they liked him speaking without a script. "I see it from your faces, right? I see it from your eyes, you like it when I speak without a script, right?" he asked. Prabowo then reiterated the difference in views between the public and the experts regarding his communication style, stating that those who dislike his speaking style are among the experts and elites.
