Cambodia Forecast: Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Expected Due to Developing Tropical Lows

Cambodia is currently under the influence of the southwest monsoon, affected by tropical lows 'Etau' (T2622) and 'Bang-lang' (T2623). These systems are impacting the Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, the South China Sea, the Mekong River basin, the Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, Cambodia is not expected to be directly in the path of these storms, according to a weather bulletin issued by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on September 1, 2026. Weather conditions are forecast from September 1 to 3, 2026, as follows: 1. Plains Areas: Minimum temperature of 25°C and a maximum of 36°C. Winds from the southwest and northeast will blow at an average speed of 7 meters per second. Areas including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampot, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Takeo, Kandal, and Phnom Penh capital will experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 20% of the land area. 2. Highland Areas: Minimum temperature of 24°C and a maximum of 35°C. Winds from the southwest and west will blow at an average speed of 8 meters per second. Areas including Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek mountain range, and the Cardamom Mountains will experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 40% of the land area. 3. Coastal Areas: Minimum temperature of 25°C and a maximum of 34°C. Winds from the southwest and southeast will blow at an average speed of 10 meters per second. Coastal provinces including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor mountain range will experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds, covering 50% of the land area.
