Free Health Check-ups and Consultations for 1,500 Residents in Lai Châu's Disadvantaged Areas

In Lai Châu province, northern Vietnam, the "For a Healthier Vietnam" program was implemented on September 19-20, aiming to bring healthcare services closer to communities by providing volunteer health support to residents, women, and students in disadvantaged areas. Over two days, the initiative offered free medical examinations, consultations, and health education. On September 19, at the Mù Cả Commune Health Station, a team of volunteer doctors and nurses provided health check-ups and consultations to over 300 residents, along with gift packages. Continuing the journey on September 20, in Bình Lư commune, more than 500 women received health check-ups, consultations, medication, and guidance on proactive health management. At Sơn Bình Primary School, over 600 students underwent dental and oral health examinations and consultations. Notably, at the Mù Cả Commune Health Station, medical professionals not only offered free services but also distributed 20 gift packages to disadvantaged families, 500 warm coats, and 30 mooncakes to preschool, primary, and secondary school students in the area. At the Bình Lư Commune Health Station, the delegation presented a package of medical examinations, consultations, medication, and support for the commune's health station and women, valued at VND 850 million. They also provided medical support equipment worth VND 20 million and 30 gifts to families, the elderly, and women facing difficulties. Additionally, dental chairs worth VND 120 million were donated to the Lai Châu provincial health force, along with VND 150 million to support the upgrade and repair of local health stations. The program involved the participation and coordination of the MEDLATEC healthcare system, relevant units, and young volunteer doctors. Beyond health services and gifts, the Vietnam Young Physicians Association, in collaboration with the Youth Union and Student Association of Hà Nội Medical University, and its lecturers, organized a community medicine class for students at Sơn Bình Primary and Secondary School focusing on preventing early and consanguineous marriages. This activity contributed to raising awareness and creating an open environment for students to learn about adolescent reproductive health, equipping them with self-protection skills, and encouraging responsible and healthy choices. It specifically addresses the prevention of early and consanguineous marriages and safeguards the future of children in highland areas. The "For a Healthier Vietnam" program in Lai Châu reaffirms the proactive, volunteer spirit, and social responsibility of young physicians in community healthcare. It also mobilizes the collective efforts of the health sector, local authorities, and partner organizations to achieve the goal that all citizens, regardless of whether they live in highland, border, or disadvantaged areas, receive timely and sustainable healthcare and access to appropriate medical services.
