4 Major Chinese Tech Firms to Invest Over 70 Billion Baht in Thailand

Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced on July 19 that four major Chinese tech companies are preparing to invest over 70 billion baht in Thailand, creating tens of thousands of jobs. This follows successful discussions between the Thai delegation and executives of these companies. The investments will focus on optical transceivers to support data center businesses, semiconductors and microchips for high-speed communication, and the continuous expansion of electric vehicle (EV) production capacity. This significant investment is expected to generate tens of thousands of new jobs, and the Thai government is prioritizing upskilling Thai workers to receive direct knowledge and modern technology transfer from these leading companies, adding long-term value to the Thai industrial sector. Anutin explained that a key reason for these investors choosing Thailand is their confidence in the country's infrastructure, including transportation and utilities, which facilitates the production of various components outside of China to address geopolitical challenges. The government has assured investors about the Board of Investment's (BOI) "Thailand FastPass" policy, a one-stop service to expedite approval and licensing processes. When asked about Thai businesspeople who had invested in China, Anutin mentioned that most operate in agricultural, food, power plant, and service sectors and have received excellent support from the Chinese government. During his visit, Anutin also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where both sides exchanged views on Thai-Chinese relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. They also underscored their shared determination to advance cooperation across all levels to deliver tangible outcomes for the mutual benefit of their peoples. In addition, both sides reaffirmed the importance of promoting cooperation to advance regional interests and peace, particularly in the areas of green economy, science, technology, and the digital economy.
